Etchings: A Festival for Contemporary Music

At The VCCA's Moulin à Nef, Auvillar, France

We're pleased to announce the 2012 Etchings Festival!

This summer’s festival will take place from July 7th - July 14th in Auvillar, France. Our guest composers will be Philippe Hurel and George Tsontakis (Bard College).

Both professional and student composers are welcome to apply. Participants will have their works performed and recorded by guest ensemble ECCE over the course of three concerts during the festival. Participant works will be rehearsed daily and each work will be given a dedicated recording session. Evening concerts will offer opportunities for performers and audiences to interact with live performances of participant works. Each afternoon, guest composers Philippe Hurel and George Tsontakis will chair master classes on participant works, coach rehearsals, and give lessons.

The population of Auvillar is deeply invested in the arts. Audience members from the community attend concerts as well as open master classes and rehearsals. The public nature of the festival creates optimal participant interaction with the performers and the larger artistic community in Auvillar. Between sessions, participants are encouraged to explore the exceptional cultural environment of Auvillar and its spectacular natural surroundings in southwest France.
