Etchings Festival 2011
At The VCCA's Moulin à Nef, Auvillar, France
This summer’s festival took place from June 26th - July 4th in Auvillar, France. Our guest composers were Stefano Gervasoni (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris) and Lee Hyla (Northwestern). Both professional and student composers attended. Eight participants had their works performed and recorded by guest ensemble ECCE over the course of three concerts during the festival. Each afternoon, guest composers Stefano Gervasoni and Lee Hyla chaired master classes on participant works and gave lessons.
The population of Auvillar is deeply invested in the arts and so audience members routinely come from within the village and the surrounding area to attend the festival events. The public nature of the festival creates optimal participant interaction with the performers and the larger artistic community in Auvillar. Between sessions, participants, faculty and guests always have time to explore the exceptional cultural environment of Auvillar and its spectacular natural surroundings in southwest France.
Stay tuned to this site for applications to the 2012 summer festival!!
