Mark Holloway - viola

Violist Mark Holloway is a chamber musician increasingly sought after within the United States and abroad.  He has appeared at some of the music world's most prestigious festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival, Ravinia, Caramoor, Banff, Taos, Music from Angel Fire, Mainly Mozart, and with the Boston Chamber Music Society.  Performances have taken him from places like Chile to Greenland, and he plays regularly at chamber music festivals in France, Switzerland, and at the International Musicians Seminar in Prussia Cove, England.  Ongoing activities include the Jupiter Chamber Players and playing as a guest with the New York Philharmonic, Orpheus, and the American Symphony, where he has been guest principal violist. He has been principal violist of the New York String Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, and was a member and guest principal of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.  He has also played at the 92nd Street Y, with the Brandenburg Ensemble at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, and on live radio and television throughout the United States and Europe.

Hailed as an "outstanding violist" by the American Record Guide and praised by Zürich's Neue Zürcher Zeitung for "warmth, intimacy," and his "sensitive interpretation of Britten's Lachrymae" for viola and string orchestra, he has recorded for Naxos and Albany Records.  A member of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Two, Mr. Holloway was a student of Michael Tree at the Curtis Institute of Music, and received his bachelor of music summa cum laude from Boston University as a student of Michelle LaCours.
